Hello.
After updating to Chrome version 136.0.7103.93, we experienced an issue where the persistent linking button is no longer available during PASSKEY authentication. We would like to inquire about the following regarding this matter.
[Environment]
- PC: Windows 10, Version 22H2
- Browser: Chrome 136.0.7103.93
- Mobile Devices: Samsung S23 (OneUI 6.1, Android 14), Samsung S23 Ultra (OneUI 6.1, Android 14)
In previous versions of Chrome, when a PASSKEY was registered on an Android device, a button displaying the device model name was shown on the PASSKEY authentication screen. Clicking this button would trigger a push notification to the mobile device and initiate the PASSKEY authentication process automatically.
This device model name button is referred to as persistent linking in PASSKEY terminology.

However, after updating to Chrome version 136.0.7103.93, even when a PASSKEY is registered on an Android device, the device model name button no longer appears on the authentication screen.
This issue appears to be related to the removal of a specific option in the Chrome browser settings. In older Chrome versions, when a PASSKEY was registered on an Android device, the device model name appeared in the following browser settings path:
- Chrome > Settings > Privacy and Security > Security > Manage Phones
Additionally, this menu path could also be accessed via the following link. However, it now redirects to the main Chrome settings screen:
- chrome://settings/securityKeys/phones
[Questions]
1. Has the persistent linking device model name button been permanently removed?
2. What is the reason for removing the device model name button?
3. Is this change documented in the Chrome release notes?
4. Is there any way to enable the device model name button through separate settings?
5. Will the device model name button be supported in future versions of Chrome?
Thank you.
